The drive
Getting up early on a weekend was never one of Vincent's favorite things to do, he'd avoid it at all costs if he could. But there were special circumstances behind this trip now that hadn't been there when he and Emily had planned it. Or maybe they had been without either of them realizing it at the time. They were giving things another shot, things being a relationship, dating, whatever word there was for it. Regardless of wording, he was getting an entire weekend with his baby girl and the woman he'd never stopped loving. Two whole days outside of the hustle, bustle, and stress that Portland had to offer. Not that it was ever overly stressful but it was nice to get away from the city and back to something slightly more familiar for himself even if it was Emily's idea to begin with.
Vince had managed to pass out on the drive to the cabin. Not entirely due to the mixtape that Emily had insisted they listen to on the way there but more to do with the fact that he'd accidentally woken up Halley at the witching hour. Coaxing his lovely daughter back to sleep took longer than he would like to admit, hell, he'd refuse to admit it. So sleeping in the car wasn't his way of being a shitty roadtrip partner but insurance that he wasn't going to be dog ass tired when they got to their destination. Or that was the plan anyway. Ten minutes before they reached their rented cabin he was startled awake by the seatbelt locking brake check courtesy of a grinning beauty next to him.
Of course, he didn't see her smile through the sleep in his eyes yet instead could hear 'Uptown Girl' playing loudly. This can't be the song I die to..., the thought flickered through his mind before he waded out of the daze enough to realize what was going on. "Fucking hell, Em, you tryin' to give me a heart attack?"
The eagle has landed
He was still alive, and certainly wide awake, by the time they made it to the cabin nestled away near Mt. Hood. "G'on inside, I'll empty the car.", he muttered with the recent events of the break check still lodged in his head. Vince would need to get his payback eventually but he wasn't entirely willing to start a prank war with her. They never ended well for either of them. Instead he waited until Emily took Halley inside and started gathering up the luggage and various boxes they'd brought with them. It was a good thing Emily had packed most of the things because he probably would have only brought the bare necessities.
Arms, hands loaded up he even had to carry in Halley's favorite stuffed animal inside by grabbing it with his teeth. Not the best idea considering the life the stuffed animal led. It's supposedly been cleaned recently but the taste hitting his tongue was starting to tell another story. Vince didn't wait for half of a breath after entering the doorway before he dropped it. "I really don't think that thing is sanitary.", more muttering but this time in hopes that he wasn't overheard.
By the time Emily was approaching to ask about something, he wasn't paying attention to anything outside of simply taking in the sight of her, he was nothing but smiles. Boxes were abandoned on a nearby table while the bags found their way to the floor so he could snug an arm around her shoulder and pull her close. Planting a kiss on the top of her head with a muffled, "How's this for campin', hmm?"
